The Omnipotence of God
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning — the first day. Genesis 1:1-5 (NIV)
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them. Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV)
We have seen a lot of great inventions and advances in just our lifetime. Some have said we have seen more inventions and progress in our generation, than all the other generations before us combined. One of the greatest advances has been discoveries in the Universe that had not been uncovered before. They’ve always been there, we are just now seeing them.
Measuring, mapping, and defining the Universe has become a tremendous opportunity. Did you know that there is a far greater percentage of Christian Believers in the field of Astro-Physics than any other scientific discipline? They have searched Creation; they have looked into the cosmos using the Hubble Telescope and have realized it could not be here by accident. There had to be an Intelligent Creator. And that Creator is Jesus Christ. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. (Colossians 1:16)
As our Omnipotent Creator, Jesus Christ is All-Powerful. He relinquished that power to come in human form to deliver us from our sin. But, as our Creator-God, He is again, All-Powerful.
Jesus, our Creator has prepared a place for us in His Cosmos that allows us to live, prosper and worship Him. He had designed a perfect world for us. But, since the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden we live in a fallen world and pay the price for it through all problems that surround us.
There are 26 specific laws of physics that must be true and functioning in order for life to be sustained on our earth, or anywhere else in the Universe, for that matter. If you stack dimes tall enough to reach the moon, almost 250,000 miles, and cover the United States, and then paint one red and give a blindfolded man a year to find the red one dime, those are the odds of any one of these laws of physics being in place by accident, not to mention all 26.[1]
The discovery of the degree of design of the Universe has had a profound impact on the Astronomers and Cosmologists who have made and witnessed these discoveries. Imagine looking into God’s kitchen and seeing the basic ingredients.
When I get to heaven and if I had the chance to ask God for something, I think I would like to look back on Creation. I’d like to watch Creation as the Rocky Mountains were being formed. I’d like to see the Grand Canyon being carved out by rivers and glaciers during the ice age. And on a grander scale… can you imagine the planets being put in their orbits. And all that not to mention all the animals. Consider the horse:
“Do you give the horse his strength
or clothe his neck with a flowing mane?
20 Do you make him leap like a locust,
striking terror with his proud snorting?
21 He paws fiercely, rejoicing in his strength,
and charges into the fray.
22 He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing;
he does not shy away from the sword.
23 The quiver rattles against his side,
along with the flashing spear and lance.
24 In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground;
he cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.
25 At the blast of the trumpet he snorts, ‘Aha!’
He catches the scent of battle from afar,
the shout of commanders and the battle cry. (Job 39:19-25) (NIV)
It still amazes me how people can look around and assume, not just assume, but fight for the fact that God’s Creation all came about by accident.
There is an argument for an intelligent designer that was put forth by Dr. William Paley, a British theologian which goes like this: If I crossed a field and stubbed my toe on a rock and someone asked me how long the rock had been there, or how it came to be there, I could very well say it had been there forever.
But, if I crossed the field and stubbed my toe on a watch, I could hardly answer it had been there forever, since it would have needed a creator to make it and put it there.
Consequently, in the complexities of the Universe, it is absurd to say this Universe exists without intelligent design, hence a Creator. There are three main attackers of this theory.
They are David Hume, a philosopher, Charles Darwin, a biologist and Stephen Gould, a paleontologist.
Hume argued that given an infinite number of building blocks and infinite amount of time life would form. The problem with that is, since we can now make the measurements of most of the Universe that we can make, we know there is not an infinite number of building blocks, nor has the Universe existed for an infinite amount of time. The question also arises, where did the building blocks come from to begin with?
Darwin argued that the Watchmaker Theory is flawed because there are such tremendous variations among populations of organisms that no one could keep them straight in creating. Again, one of the questions Charles Darwin doesn’t answer is where did the building blocks come from to begin with? Who made the primordial ooze?
Gould’s argument was that there are too many bad designs in nature to be divinely inspired. He cites the Panda’s thumb, Duckbill Platypus, the Giraffe, the Elephant and other animals. But, as it is, no evidence of any kind of natural selection, or new generation has been presented. There has been no evolution of one kind of animal into another kind animal. That is why evolution is still called a Theory.
There have been numerous frauds and hoaxes thrust upon a public that wants so much to believe anything but God. But there is no empirical evidence of these alternates to the truth of Divine Creation.
You might ask where my evidence of Divine Creation is? I would simply say take the proofs offered by these astronomers and cosmologists who have looked into the depths of the Universe, then look around you… and believe.
