As they reached the Garden, Jesus entered to pray, taking Peter, James and John deeper into the Garden with Him. Jesus prayed often. To some that may seem odd; God praying? Jesus talked often to His Father, and especially on this night, above all others, He prayed what we would see as the most earnest prayer of His life. How much do you pray? Jesus prayed on many different occasions: Giving thanks before feeding the 5000; raising Lazarus from death; giving thanks at the Lord’s Supper. Now Jesus prays in the few hours left before his Crucifixion.

With the Bread Jesus was laying down His Body for the entire world to pick up. (John 6:35) He was declaring the Sacrifice of God’s perfect Passover Lamb. With the Cup Jesus was pouring out His lifeblood for the entire world to drink. The Blood that washes us clean of all sin. (Isaiah 1:18) On the Cross Jesus would overcome the power of sin and death and offer Eternal Life to any and all who wish to receive it. (John 16:33) And with the Empty Tomb, Jesus would show us that He is alive forevermore. (John 20:3-9)

  • Growing Into the Body of Christ

As Christians we are all maturing. We are maturing in our earthly bodies, and in our Spiritual bodies, leading to maturity in the Body of Christ. We should all be maturing in the Body of Christ toward one common goal: until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:11)

“Accepting Christ for Who He Is”

  • Accepting Christ for All of Who He Is

His Name is: Master, Savior, Lion of Judah, Blessed Prince of Peace, Shepherd, Fortress, Rock of the Ages, Lamb of God is He, Son of David, King of the ages, Eternal Life, He’s the Holy Lord of Glory, His Name is Life. These are words in a song by Carmine Licceardillo a popular CCM writer. It is a worshipful song that speaks, so eloquently, as to Who Jesus is. But there is a greater question you have to ask yourself, “Who is Jesus to you?”

  • Realizing Family Around You at the Altar
  • Realizing the Body of Christ as Family

When we gather at our family dinner tables, stories become part of the meal. Stories about what happened that day. Stories about what happened to each family member. Stories of relationships between family members. I clearly remember certain meals we had around our dinner table. There were times when I could always get milk to come out of my sister Lisa’s nose. I remember coming in late after football practice and my mother would have a hot bowl of pinto beans, a couple of pork chops, hot cornbread, a nice white onion cut up, and a big cold glass of milk waiting on me. But, sitting there alone, after everyone else had finished, just wasn’t the same. Family was missing.

“His Mighty Power Within Us”

  • Accepting the Power of the Holy Spirit in Your Life
  • Knowing the Power of Jesus in Your Life

Our Scripture for this season is the encouragement Paul gave to the Ephesians, telling them of what they could do and what they could be. Doing His Will, being in His Word, bring glory to His Name. We are Worshiping Him when we do those things. And as we Worship Him, He works within us to bring immeasurably more from within us than we can imagine. Do you believe that? He said He would.

  • Jesus gives a Sunday School Lesson

It was on the afternoon of that first Easter, when our Messiah had risen from the grave. Some of life was going on as usual, just the way it had before Jesus had come into our world. However, for followers and believers there were still many questions to be answered. Many questions hurting their hearts. Many questions about the future. v 13 All these questions also bothered two friends who were walking the 7 miles from Jerusalem to the small town of Emmaus.

“Spiritual Condition vs. Spiritual Position”

January 12, 2020

  • Being sure of Your Spiritual Position
  • Faith in Christ the Solid Rock

The quality of your Spiritual Life does not depend on your Spiritual Condition, it depends on your Spiritual Position. In the Spiritual world, if your Lord is Jesus Christ, then you are on the proper side of the fence, whether you feel like it or not. How you feel Spiritually should depend on Whose you are, not on how you are feeling.

When God planted this Methodist Church here over 100 years ago, He didn’t do it on a temporary basis. He put us here permanently. Now, what we need to do is to find out which chapter in that long story of Bostwick UMC we are in and do our part to help continue the story. Terry Teykl, a United Methodist Evangelist says we are living in the 29th Chapter of Acts. The Book of Acts is the history of the beginning of the Church, the Body of Christ, it only has 28 Chapters, we are living Chapter 29.
